AYNI, September 5, 2008, Asia-Plus  — German national, Mr. Marcus Wagner, who is traveling to China by bicycle, will make contribution to development of the village of Veshab in Sughd’s Ayni district, Asia-Plus has learned from Olimjon Rahimov, office manager, the Welthungerhilfe/German Agro Action (GAA).

According to him, Mr. Wagner will arrive in Tajikistan in the near future.  “He started his cycling race in April this year and his itinerary, some 15,000 kilometers in length, runs from Germany through Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan to China,” Rahimov said.

For each traveled kilometer he receives €1.00 from European sponsors, who provided him with bicycle, communications means and tourist accessories for use and advertising.  “Proceeds will go to supporting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) program adopted by the UN General Secretariat in 2002,” the office manager said.

According to him, Marcus Wagner is expected to arrive in Tajikistan within the next few days.  In Tajikistan, he will visit the village of Veshab in the northern district of Ayni.  Veshab is one 15 villages, selected by Welthungerhilfe across the world for implementation of projects for achieving MDGs. Some €3,000 are provided to Wagner especially for the village of Veshab, according to Rahimov.
