KHUJAND, September 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Another alleged activist o the outlawed religious extremist Hizb ut-Tahrir organization has been detained in northern Tajikistan. 

According to the Sughd police directorate, a 33-year-old resident of Khujand, Murod Rustamov, was detained on September 20 on suspicion of being member of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization.  

40 Hizb ut-Tahrir leaflets and subversive literature were found in his house, the source at the Sughd police directorate said.    

“The preliminary investigation has established that Rustamov has been activist of the Hizb ut-Tahrir party since 2004 and he was involved in spreading the Hizb ut-Tahrir leaflets and literature among the population,” the source said, noting that Rustamov’s case materials were sent to the security directorate for instituting criminal proceedings against him.  

The usual charges against Hizb ut-Tahrir members are inciting religious hatred, seeking to overthrow the constitutional order, and membership in a criminal organization.
