DUSHANBE, October 27, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A session of an expert group for coordination of a draft resolution on the CIS veterans’ organizations has opened in Minsk, Belarus today.

Ms. Marina Gutsalo, a spokeswoman for the CIS Executive Committee, told Asia-Plus on October 27 that the document provides for consideration of opportunities of establishment of state bodies in the CIS states for coordination of activities of their veterans’ organizations and provision of state financial support to the republican veterans’ organizations.

The draft resolution also suggests that the coordination council for international union of the CIS public veterans’ organizations should continue thoroughly protecting social rights and economic interests of veterans and intensifying activity on patriotic education of youth.

The coordination council for international union of the CIS public veterans’ organizations now groups 12 public veterans’ organizations of the CIS states as well as Latvia and Estonia (totaling more than 60 million people), the spokeswoman said.
