QURGHON TEPPA, December 16, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A regional court in Tajikistan has sentenced two Afghan nationals to long jail terms for drug trafficking.

The Khatlon regional court on December 15 ruled that two Afghan nationals, Sultonmahmad valadi Gulokhon and Rafiq valadi Shervali, be given jail term of 24 years each and that they should serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony, Ismatullo Rasoulov, an official with the Khatlon regional prosecutor’s office, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the sentence followed their conviction on charge of involvement in drug trafficking and illegally crossing border.

The Afghan nationals were detained by servicemen of the Panj border unit deployed in the Khatlon province on September 17 this year and 14.8 kilograms of hashish were confiscated from them.
