DUSHANBE, December 27, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A fire broke out in the building of the US Embassy in Dushanbe Friday afternoon.

According to Ms. Nigina Aliyeva, Information Assistant, US Embassy, the fire broke out in the kitchen of the Marine security detachment at the Embassy.  “Timely arriving firefighters did not allow fire spreading to other premises,” Aliyeva said.  

The Interior Ministry firefighting service chief Mahmadsaid Karimov said that three firefighting crews had been involved in putting out the fire.  Now injured was reported, according to him.   

There was practically nobody in the building on Friday because the diplomatic mission employees are currently on short Christmas holidays.
