DUSHANBE, January 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — January is usually a season for staff changes in the Tajik government.  Local experts hold that there is necessity of serious staff changes in the government this year.

According to political scientist Abdullo Hakim Rahnamo, especially the economic bloc requires serious changes.

“Time has come for appointing prime minister that would have specific financial and economic program especially today under conditions of the ongoing global financial crisis, effects of which will be experienced in Tajikistan in the coming spring,” said Rahnamo, “Therefore, Tajikistan now needs premier with anti-crisis program.”

In his opinion, there are several candidates for the prime minister post: head of Tajik central bank Sharif Rahimzoda; Oryonbonk head Hasan Sadulloyev; Talco sales manager Sherali Kabirov; and ex-minister of industries Zayd Saidov.  “It would be also good to think of candidacy of ex-premier and currently successful businessman Yahyo Azimov,” the expert said.

Rahnamo further noted that there was no necessity to observe the traditional principle that prime minister should be from the northern region by origin.  “Any premier may work effectively if he has real powers for manageming the economy issues and controlling the economic bloc officials,” the expert said.
