DUSHANBE, January 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on Public Order, Defense and Security discussed a draft law on standard-legal acts at a January 20 meeting, presided over by deputy speaker of the lower house, Ubaidullo Davlatov.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said that during the meeting it had been noted that some provisions of the Law “On Standard-Legal Acts” adopted in 1998 on the basis of the recommended draft law presented to the CSI member states in 1995 have shortcomings and are in contrary with other laws.  Taking all this into account, the government initiated preparation of the new draft law on the standard-legal acts and a working group was set up to work out the mentioned bill that was submitted for consideration to the lower house.

Members of the Committee of on Public Order, Defense and Security considered the draft law and proposed amendments to some of its articles, the spokesman said.
