DUSHANBE, February 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — In January 2009, Tajikistan drew more than 85.6 million somoni (equivalent to 22.8 million US dollars) of investments for construction and rehabilitation of power facilities, according to the State Committee for Statistics.
22.8 million somoni of this amount went to financing construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP). Besides, 38.8 million somoni, with 20 million of them being share of Tajikistan, went to financing construction of the Sangtuda-2 HPP, which is being built with help of Iranian specialists, and 21.2 million somoni were spent for construction of the Roghun HPP.
Noting that electrical power engineering is one of priorities of Tajik government’s policy, the state committee for statistics notes that power industry accounted for 53.2 percent of the overall volume of investments drawn in January 2009.
In all, more than 160 million of capital asset investments were drawn last month.
We will recall that the energy sector spending accounts for 15.2 percent of this year’s budget spending. The national budget for 2009 projects expenditure of 928.3 million somoni in the energy sector, which is two times more than last year.
