DUSHANBE, March 31, 2009, Asia-Plus – The first drawing for new public premium bonds was held in Dushanbe yesterday, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
The source at a MoF said holders of the public premium bonds and independent observers had attended the drawing.
Speaking at the drawing-opening ceremony, Deputy Finance Minister, Jamshed Norinov, said the bonds were much in demand, and therefore, they had decided to increase the volume of bonds from three to ten million somoni.
As it had been reported earlier, these bonds are the medium-term ones issued for the period of 10 years. The government has issued public premium bonds of 10 and 20 somoni’s denomination and winnings on them are set at 20, 40, 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 somoni.
Printed in Germany, the bonds were put into circulation on March 1 and holders of the premium bonds issued in 2002 might exchange them for the new bonds or receive the amount due to them.
In all, 60 drawings are held for the 2002 bonds during ten years – six drawings each year with periodicity of once per two months.
The new public premium bonds are issued in Tajikistan by government’s resolution of December 29, 2008, and 60 drawings will be held during ten years.
