DUSHANBE, April 3. 2009, Asia-Plus  — The issue of settlement of the electricity debt of Barqi Tojik power holding to open joint-stock company (OJSC) Sangtuda HPP-1, which has built the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), may be solved in the near future, Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Top managers of Barqi Tojik and Sangtuda HPP-1 are expected to meet within the next few days to discuss the debt settlement issues,” Yodgori said.

According to him, Barqi Tojik intends to offer power deliveries to the southern part of the Russian Federation in summer as one of options of settlement of its debt.

“The company has repaid 2 million somoni to Sangtuda HPP-1 to this date,” the head of the Barqi Tajik engineering supervision directorate Mahmadsaid Shamsulloyev said, noting that part of those funds went to paying wages of the Sangtuda-1 builders who warned to begin strike to demand their wages.

We will recall that workers of the Russian-built Snagtuda-1 HPP began one-day warning strike on March 27, demanding to pay overdue salaries for the last four months.

“The worker received salaries the same day,” Shamsulloyev said.

As it had been reported earlier, Barqi Tojik now owes some 10 million US dollars for electricity received over last year and the first two months of this year and the opening of the Sangtuda-1 station has been postponed until Barqi Tojik can repay the debt.
