DUSHANBE, April 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The CIS foreign ministers adopted a joint statement about the situation in Moldova at an April 10 session in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Ms. Maria Gutsalo, a spokesman for the CIS Executive Committee, said that in their statement, the ministers had condemned attempts to solve disputable issues by force and called on the sides in Moldova to observe the constitutional order and follow the results of the parliamentary elections that had been recognized by international observers.

The Ashgabat meeting focused on ways to increase the effectiveness of functioning of CIS bodies.  The meeting of the council of the CIS foreign ministers in Ashgabat also discussed recent events in Moldova.

The agenda included some 20 issues: key trends of multilateral cooperation within the CIS area.  Special attention was paid to priorities of humanitarian cooperation in 2009-2010.

The meeting participants also took decisions on draft agreements on exchange of information about the fight against crime and cooperation on investigation of air crashes involving aircraft of the CIS states as well as discussed practice of work of the CIS election observers’ mission and endorsed the draft agenda of the upcoming session of the council of the CIS heads of government.

Besides, within preparations for the Victory Day celebrations the ministers also considered a draft resolution on making a common jubilee medal ‘The 65th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’.”
