KHUJAND, April 30, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Radio relay send-receive equipment for the Sughd regional TV station that was purchased from Ukraine has arrived in Dushanbe, the head of the Sughd TV and radio-broadcasting directorate Ishoqjon Zokirov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the equipment will be transported to Khujand by vehicles within the next few days.  “The equipment will allow improving quality of broadcasting programs to mountain areas such as Isfara and Istaravshan and extending signal coverage area from 33 to 70 percent of the territory of the province,” Zokirov said, noting that 300,000 somoni had been allocated from the regional budget for purchase of the new equipment.

The Sughd regional TV station currently airs eight hours per day: three hours in the morning and five hours in the evening.
