DUSHANBE, May 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — By May 1, the spring conscription campaign in the country has reached more than 88 percent of the target, Faridoun Mahmadaliyev, a chief spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), told Asia-Plus today.
In the territorial cross section the percentage the target reached were: Gorno Badakhshan – 86 percent; Khatlon – 94 percent; Sughd – 87 percent; districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) – 85.9 percent; and Dushanbe – 75 percent.
The cities of Norak, Kulob, Taboshar, Konibodom, Panjakent and Sarband as well as the districts of Shugnan, Rushan, Roshtqala, Murgab, Zafarobod, Shahriston, Varzob, Tavildara, Tojikobod, Shuroobod, Panj, Danghara, Baljuvon, Farkhor, Khovaling and Nosir Khusrav have already fulfilled their conscription targets, the spokesman said.
The spring conscription campaign is carried out from April through May, and the draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old who are not members of the armed forces reserve.
