DUSHANBE, May 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — The hospital equipment delivered to Tajikistan in seven containers includes a wide range of medical consumables, medical containers, surgery kits, bed clothes, bedsteads, stretchers, mattresses, surgical coats and nurses overalls, and the like, press release issued by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan said.
The goods are meant for selective delivery to five hospitals located in Dushanbe, districts subordinate to the center (RRPs), Gorno Badakhshan, Khatlon and Sughd.
Besides, the goods also contain five Trailer Gasoline-Electric generators to be attached to the five mobile hospitals, which were delivered to the Government of Tajikistan in 2008 within Disaster Preparedness Program and two sterilizers to be dispatched to the hospital of Khorog.
Distribution of medical equipment is stipulated in the quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding on the Project “Donation of Hospital Equipment to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan as part of the WAM -136 Project (Redeployment of Army equipment) signed on December 16, 2008 between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Swiss Center of International Health/Swiss Tropical Institute and the Aga Khan Foundation.
Up to 2010, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Department of Defense, Sport and Civil Protection of the Swiss Confederation are running the “WAM” project to make available replaced military supplies for humanitarian purposes. The “WAM” inventory does not include weapons or any items that could be used to manufacture weapons.
