QURGHON TEPPA/DUSHANBE, May 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — Visit of President Emomali Rahmon scheduled for today has been canceled, the source at Khatlon governor’s office told Asia-Plus today.  He refrained from clarifying the reason for cancellation of the visit.

In the meantime, presidential press service says the visit of the president to Khalton was not scheduled for May 20.

We will recall that the source at Khatlon governor’s office told Asia-Plus yesterday that President Emomali Rahmon will pay a short visit to the Khatlon province on May 20.  According to him, the president was supposed to visit the Ayni jamoat in the Khuroson district that had been most hit by this year’s torrential rain and mudslides as well as take part at ceremonies of opening of a number of industrial enterprises in the city of Qurghon Teppa and the Rumi district, according to the Khatlon governor’s office.

In Qurghon Teppa, President Rahmon was supposed to inaugurate a plant for producing laundry soaps.  The rated capacity of the plant is 4,000 tons of the laundry soaps per year,” said the Khatlon industry department head Abdujabbor Bahodurov, “Next year, we plan to launch a workshop for production of toilet soaps at this plant.  The enterprise will create more than 100 new jobs for local residents”

According to him, 222 industrial enterprises have been registered in the province so far; 24 of them were not in operation over the first four months of this year.  “However, the province has produced a total of 405.5 million somoni worth of industrial goods over the report period, which is 11.3 million somoni more than in the same period of 2008,” Bahodurov said.

President Rahmon was also supposed to visit the Bokhtar district.
