DUSHANBE, June 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Women of Science of Tajikistan Association has launched the project, Development of System of Rapid Response to Violence against Children Cases.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the child’s right protection department within the Dushanbe mayor’s office under support of the UNICEF CO in Tajikistan.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the NGO chairperson, Ms. Muhiba Yoqubova, said that one of approaches to reduction in the number of violence against children cases was participation of children themselves in educative and explanatory work among both adults and children.

In this connection, the Women of Science of Tajikistan Association set up a Children’s Mobile Group in 2002 already and this group is successfully carrying out explanatory and educative work among different sections of the population, performing sketches on this problem and distributing various informational materials and brochures on the violence against children problems published by the Association, Yoqubova said.  The children’s mobile group works mainly with two age categories – teenagers aged 14 to 18 and young people aged 18 to 20.  The group members instruct them in methods of carrying out informational-educative work among different sections of the population.

The main objective of this work is in forming correct moral standards and raising population’s awareness of children’s needs and factors of risk leading to cruel treatment of children.

To ensure operational response to the violence against children cases the Association organized hotline 227-27-60 and made available free legal and psychological consultations.
