DUSHANBE, July 16, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first six months of this year, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has reduced government’s guarantee commitments by 25 million US dollars to 47 million US dollars.

The NBT head Sharif Rahimzoda remarked this while speaking to reporters in Dushanbe on July 16.

“As of January 1, 2009, our guarantee commitments amounted to 72 million US dollars,” said Rahimzoda, “We have managed to repay borrowings for some 20.7 million dollars and repay 6 million dollars to Kazkommertzbank, which is a part of a 47 million dollars loan provided by this bank for enhancement of the cotton sector in the country”

As of June 30, 2009, a loan balance rose 20.9 percent in the year to June 30, 2009, reaching 5.489 billion somoni.

In January-June 2009, Tajik banks have provided more than 2.158 billion somoni in loans, which is 13.7 percent more than in the same period of last year, Rahimzoda said, noting that the volume of repaid loans amounted to 1.5294 billion somoni.

He further added that a share of problem loans in loan portfolio had increased and it now amounted to 16 percent.
