DUSHANBE, July 27, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Leaders of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia are expected to hold a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings in Dushanbe from July 28-30, according to the Tajik MFA.

Davlat Nazriyev, the head of the MFA information department, told a briefing in Dushanbe on July 27 that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will arrive in Tajikistan tomorrow on an official three-day visit.

“Wednesday morning, President Zardari will hold talks with Emomali Rahmon and their talks will be followed by an enlarged meeting with participation of the government delegations of the two countries,” said Nazriyev, “The negotiations are expected to result in signing of a number bilateral cooperation documents  between Tajikistan and Pakistan.”

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is scheduled to arrive in Tajikistan for a working visit Wednesday afternoon.  The same day, he will hold talks with President Rahmon.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is expected to arrive in Dushanbe Thursday (July 30) afternoon.  The same day, he will hold meeting with President Rahmon and on July 31, both presidents will attend an official opening ceremony of the Russian-built hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Sangtuda-1 on the Vakhsh River, the MFA spokesman said.

According to him, a tripartite meeting of the presidents of  Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan to discuss energy cooperation issues will start Thursday morning and Russian president will join them Thursday afternoon.
