U.S. Diplomatic mission disproved information which appeared in mass media on the fact that question on restoration of U.S. Military base in Khanabad was discussed during recent visit of the Commander of U.S. Central Command David Petraeus to Uzbekistan.

“Media reports that military bases were discussed are incorrect,” press release published on Embassy”s website stated.

To remind, U.S. Central Command Commander General Petraeus visited Tashkent on August 18.

During his visit, the CENTCOM Commanding General discussed with Uzbekistan”s leadership key regional security issues, particularly related to Afghanistan. He met with President Islam Karimov and senior Uzbek officials from the National Security Council and the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade. Minister of Defense Berdiev and General Petraeus also signed an agreement outlining a program of military to military contact involving educational exchanges and training for the coming year.
