DUSHANBE, August 26, 2009, Asia-Plus  — On occasion of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan that began this year on August 22 the Dushanbe independent radio station Asia-Plus has launched a new program, Ramazon (Ramadan).

“Ramazon” is a daily program that will be broadcast during the holy month of Ramadan.  It is on the air from 3:30 am to 6:00 am.

“The program will be interesting for those keeping fast,” said Ms. Parvona Ahrori, executive director of the Radio Asia-Plus, “The audience will get interesting information about the meaning of fasting, the origin of fasting as religious practice, advices how to eat correctly during the month of Ramadan, as well as about rules of conduct and many other things.”

Besides, beautiful Eastern music will sound during the program.

“Ramazon” is not only the program about the meaning of fasting, it is also the program about importance of carrying out good actions,” Ms. Ahrori noted.

Fasting is the most prominent event of the month of Ramadan.  Every day during the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world get up before dawn to eat the pre-dawn meal, then they perform the bomdod (fajr) prayer. They have to stop eating and drinking before the call for prayer starts until the fourth prayer of he day, shom (maghrib).  Muslims may continue to eat and drink after the sun has set until the next morning”s fajr prayer call.  Then the process starts all over.

Ramadan is a time of reflecting and worshipping God.  Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and to avoid obscene and irreligious sights and sounds.  Purity of both thoughts and actions is important.  The fast is intended to be an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised awareness of closeness to God.

The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control

, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate; thus encouraging actions of generosity and charity.
