KULOB, August 28, 2009, Asia-Plus — By August 28, grain farmers in Khatlon’s Kulob zone have produced 212,593 tons, which is 60,000 tons more than it was originally planned, Abdullo Rajabov, a leading specialist at the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“Some grain farms in mountain districts have still reached some 60-70 percent of the targets for this year,”, Rajabov said.
According to him, ten districts of the Kulob zone have reported average wheat yields of 2.39 tons per one hectare against the originally planned 1.72 tons/ha.
“Especially good results have been achieved by farmers in the Danghara district who have reported average wheat yields of 2.81 tons/ha,” said Rajabov, “Kulob, Muminobod and Vose districts have also practically completed the grain-harvesting campaign and the others are expected to complete the grain-harvesting campaign within the coming two weeks.”
This year, farmers in the Kulob zone have planted grains on 89,000 hectares.
