DUSHANBE, September 3, 2009, Asia-Plus – The results of a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) audit of Tajikistan”s main electricity supplier, Barqi Tojik, will remain confidential according to Luc Moers, the IMF”s representative there, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reported on September 2.

Moers told RFE/RL”s Tajik Service that World Bank and Tajik officials are working to resolve obstacles to reconciling their figures.

Barqi Tojik has come under criticism locally over perceived shortcomings that include opacity in its operations, and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon dismissed the company”s director and deputy directors earlier this year.

Financial experts concluded last year that some $1 billion in IMF and other international funding intended for Tajikistan”s cotton sector appeared to have been misused.

Moers said another audit was under way of another major Tajik company, aluminum manufacturer Talco.
