DUSHANBE, September 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A group of unidentified persons attacked three Tajik nationals in the city of Volkhov, Russia’s Leningrad region on August 31, 2009.

According to a statement released by the St. Petersburg-based newspaper

yesterday, a group of unidentified persons armed with sticks and rods attacked three Tajik labor migrants who were returning from work.  On of them, Faridoun Emomov from Khatlon’s Yovon district, was beaten to death, while the other one, who is Faridoun’s elder brother, received serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.  The third one managed to escape

On September 2, leaders of the Tajik Diaspora in St. Petersburg, Somoniyon, M.M. Mirzozoda and A.M. Mahmadov, as well as officer from the Tajik Interior Ministry migration service’s representative office in Russia visited the attack victims and their relatives.

Representatives from the Tajik Diaspora held talks with the Volkhov law enforcement authorities on this subject.

The Volkhov law enforcement authorities have denied rumors that the attack was organized by the Military-Patriotic Movement as unfounded, the statement said.
