DUSHANBE, September 5, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two Tajik boxers have won their first fights in the 2009 World Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy, according to the Boxing Federation of Tajikistan.

On September 4, Tajik boxer Madad Najibekov participating in the -64kg category won his competitor from Togo Tonde Saruna 14-4.

Another Tajik boxer Jahon Qurbonov (-91kg) won the Slovakian boxer Borut Slapnik 12-0.  The next fight of Jahon Quronov will be held on September 6.

The 2009 AIBA Amateur World Boxing Championships kicked off in Milan on September 1 and will last till September 13.  Boxers aged 17 to 34 are united every two years to compete against the best in their division from around the world.  The athletes participate in the official 11 weight categories in accordance with the AIBA Technical and Competition Rules.

The 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships is being held in the Mediolanum Forum di Assago, which is an indoor sporting arena in Assago, near Milan.  It is the biggest World Championships in AIBA history. The competition is under the supervision of the world”s governing body for amateur boxing the AIBA.

Originally, Cameroon, Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan each expressed interest in hosting the championships however they did not submit a final application and were therefore withdrawn from the running.  This left Italy and South Korea remaining who were the final two countries in contention during the bidding process to host the 2009 championships. The city of Milan in Italy was then chosen to host the competition,
