DUSHANBE, September 24, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Financing of the education sector will be increased next year despite effects of the global financial crisis, the first Deputy Education Minister Farhod Rahimov remarked at a roundtable meeting entitled “Efficient Management of Financial Resources in the Higher Education System under Conditions of the Financial Crisis” in Dushanbe on September 23.

Organized by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in cooperation with the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan), the meeting brought together representatives from president’s office, the ministry of education and OSI/AF-Tajikistan.

Rahimov noted that this year the budget has earmarked 1.139 billion for the education sector.  According to him, financing of the education sector over the past nine years have been increased 30 times.  “For example, in 2000 the country’s budget provided 42 million somoni for development of the education sector,” the deputy minister said.
