DUSHANBE, October 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  — NATO forces in Afghanistan may repeat the fate of the limited contingent of the Soviet troops in this country, although it may not yet be said safely, Khudoberdi Kholiqnazarov, the head of the national strategy development directorate within the Center for Strategic Studies also former Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the US-led NATO forces have been in Afghanistan for already eight years, however, they failed to achieve the results they originally hoped to achieve.

“May be the new administration of White House will be able to make amendments to activities of NATO forces in this country, but it is not so easy to solve the Afghan problem,” said the expert, “It is impossible to solve the Afghan problem by force, it may be solved only through negotiations and dialogue.”
