DUSHANBE, October 15, 2009, Asia-Plus — Traffic police officers seized more than 127 kilograms of narcotics in a separate operation on October 14.
According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), Toyota Prada, the number plate AM 1572 RT03 (Khatlon province), was stopped at the traffic police checkpoint “Varzob” yesterday.
“At the request of traffic police officers to produce his documents, the driver showed the service certificate of an officer of the Prosecutor-General’s Office,” said the source at a MoI, “But when the traffic police officers asked him to open trunk the driver stepped on the gas. The traffic police began pursuing him, but he left his car on the outskirts of Dushanbe and escaped.”
Five packages containing some 110 kilograms of raw opium, 9.5 kilograms of marijuana and 8 kilograms of hashish were found in the car, said the source noting that the traffic police officers also found the service certificate of an officer of the Prosecutor-General’s Office, issued in the name of R.A., in the car.
R.A was arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking and an investigation is under way.
