DUSHANBE, October 28, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) have endorsed amendments to the Constitutional Law “On the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan” requiring members of the government to submit information regarding their incomes and property to relevant bodies annually.

A regular sitting of the sixth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the third convocation, presided over by its speaker, Saydullo Khairulloyev, on October 28.

Presenting the bill, Juma Davlatov, the head of the public service directorate within President’s Executive Office, noted that the proposed amendments obligate members of the government to submit their income and property declarations to tax bodies opportunely.

MPs considered and endorsed amendments to the laws on the government, local authorities, environmental protection, road traffic as well as country’s water code without long discussions.

Speaking to reporters, Davlatov said that the current tax code and some anticorruption laws provided for submission by public servants of information regarding their incomes and property to the tax bodies once a year.  “In the meantime, amendments proposed to the law on the government obligate members of the government also to do so,” Davlatov said.

He added that a working group set up by the government was currently working out a draft law on rotation of public servants.
