DUSHANBE, November 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The first Tajik-Polish consultations on economic issues that were held in Dushanbe today resulted in signing of an agreement on economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Poland.

The document was signed by the Government of Tajikistan, represented by Farrukh Hamraliyev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and the Government of Poland, represented by Martin Koropets (phonetically spelled), Deputy Minister of Economy.

Polish deputy economy minister arrived in Tajikistan today morning at the head of a delegation, which includes top managers of a number of Polish large companies.

State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Poland were among major topics of the consultations.

A conference with participation of representatives of business communities of the two countries is being held at Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry today afternoon.

Tomorrow, Polish entrepreneurs are scheduled to visit some regions of the country to get acquainted with work of their colleagues and determine sectors that would drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

Last year, a trade between the two countries valued at only 26.3 million U.S. dollars, which was 12.7 percent fewer than in 2007.  Over the first nine months of this year, the Polish-Tajik trade has decreased even more.

Only four enterprises with participation of Polish capital now operate in Tajikistan; one of them, is Polish construction company, Budmex, which opened its representative office here this year.
