DUSHANBE, March 30, 2010, Asia-Plus — According to the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, at least three Tajik nationals were killed and one other was injured by two deadly explosions that rocked Moscow Monday morning.
The embassy says Umed Abdurahmonov, 24, from Khatlon’s Vakhsh district, Nodirbek Qarshiyev, 24, and Islomzhon Eshnazarov, 25, (both are from the city of Tursunzoda) were killed and Oryo Nazarov, 26, from Dushanbe was injured in the Moscow metro deadly blasts. Oryo Nazarov is currently in the First Aid Sklifosovsky Hospital.
At least 39 people were killed and 73 others were injured by two explosions, which hit Moscow subway system on March 29 at the peak of the morning rush hour. The first blast took place at the central Lubyanka station at about 07:56 am and the second explosion occurred about 30 minutes later at the Park Kultury station.
Moscow authorities have declared it a “terrorist” incident. Prosecutors in Moscow told Interfax that initial reports indicated both of the explosions were suicide bombings. Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on trains.
Aleksandr Bortnikov, head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), says insurgents linked to the North Caucasus region are suspected of carrying out those bombings on Moscow”s subway system. He said during a televised meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that the assessment of a North Caucasus connection was based on fragments of the suicide bombers” bodies.
There was a major attack on the Moscow Metro in February 2004, when at least 41 people were killed by a bomb on a packed train as it approached the Paveletskaya Metro station. Six months later, a suicide bomber blew herself up outside a station, killing 10 people.
