DUSHANBE, March 31, 2010, Asia-Plus — The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to pay a visit to Tajikistan on April 5-6, according to the MFA information department.
“During the visit, Mr. Ban plans to familiarize himself with the process of construction of hydropower plants on the Vakhsh River,” the MFA spokesman Davlat Nazriyev said.
The UN Secretary-General will also hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The sides are expected to discuss issues related to implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), environmental protection problems as well as state and prospects of regional cooperation.
They are also expected to discuss the present situation in Afghanistan and a number of other regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
On April 6, the UN secretary-general will leave Tajikistan for Kazakhstan, the MFA information department said.
