DUSHANBE, April 6, 2010, Asia-Plus  — In Tajikistan, inflation for January-February 2010 stood at 1.2 percent, according to the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT)

A 0.8 percent increase in prices of products of food industry was reported in January-February and non-foodstuffs rose in cost by 1.2 percent over the first two months of this year.  Over the report period, prices and rates for services rendered to the population rose 2.8.

The source at central bank noted that Inflation for the period from February 1, 2009 to February 28, 2010 stood 5.6 percent.

The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 6.0 percent in two months to February 28, 2010, reaching 1.2434 billion somoni.      

In the meantime, according to figures provided by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the cost of the set of food products included in the consumer basket for actual consumption in prices as of the end of February 2010 was 100.34 somoni (equivalent to some US$23.01) per one family member per month, and with the norm for a balanced diet it was 200.11 somoni (equivalent to some US$45.8).
