DUSHANBE, April 13, 2010, Asia-Plus — An April 12 government meeting, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, reviewed the result of the past quarter’s work, according to presidential press service.

Issues related to mitigation of effects of disasters, the results of work carried out in the first quarts, construction of facilities in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as preparations for the next winter were a major topic of the meeting.

Reporting on damage caused by recent heavy rains and mudflows, the Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon and other officials noted that torrential rain had caused serious damage to Vose, Muminobod, Shuroobod, Baljuvon, Khovaling, Hissar, Fayzobod, Ghonchi and Istaratvshan districts.  The worst hit area is the Vose district in Khatlon province

Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov noted that compared to January-March 2009 revenues to the country’s budget have increased by 10 percent over the report period.

According to Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali, compared to January-March 2009 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods in the country amounted to 116 percent.

The president ordered Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and other members of the government to visit Gorno Badakhshan in order to speed up the work on mitigation of effects in the Vanj district and construction of new houses for disaster-hit people.
