KHOROG, April 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  — An overland communication between Gorno Badakhshan and other part of the country that was cut off two week ago has been restored.

We will recall that the region had not had overland communication with other part of Tajikistan for two weeks as flood caused by torrential rain destroyed the bridge across the Obi Niyov River in Shuroobod district, Khatlon province on April 11.

Shamsmuhammad Nazriyev, the head of the state unitary enterprise, Badakhshonroh (GBAO road maintenance enterprise), told Asia-Plus that repairs to the bridge across the Obi Niyov River were finished yesterday and traffic via the Khorog-Kulob-Dushanbe route was resumed.

In the meantime, the Khaburrabot Pass connecting the region to the central part of the country and Dushanbe via the Rasht Valley was also opened for traffic on April 25.  However, only vehicles with capacity of up to 20 tons are permitted to move through the bridge in the Dashti Sher area in the Tavildara district.
