DUSHANBE, May 4, 2010, Asia-Plus — Veterans of World War II from Tajikistan will participate in celebrations devoted to Victory Day that will take place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev and Paris, Asia-Plus has learned at the Council of Veterans of Tajikistan.
Seven war veterans, namely Grigory Alekseyev, Zokirjon Niyozov, Komil Rahmonov, Shamsi Roziqov, Karim Sanginov, Yunus Yusupov and Jamshed Yusupov will attend the celebrations in Moscow.
Fayazli Saidov has been invited to attend the Victory celebrations in St. Petersburg and four war veterans – Khaskash Abdulloyev, Khalil Rasoulov, Qurbon Nematov and Ghayur Safarov – will attend the Victory celebrations in Kiev, Ukraine.
Besides, the war veteran from Kulob, Mirzo Begmatov, will attend cultural and political events dedicated to Victory Day that will be held in Paris, France, the source said.
Victory Day marks the end of World War II I Europe, specifically the capitulation of Nazi forces to the Allies (the United Kingdom, Soviet Union, France, the United States and other principal Allied nations) on May 8, 1945.
In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries of former Soviet Union, the day of Victory over Nazi Germany was celebrated on May 9, because when the German Instrument of Surrender actually entered into force (May 8, 1945 at 23:01 CET), it was already May 9 by Moscow Time. Post-Soviet countries have continued the tradition.
