DUSHANBE, May 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov met here on Friday with visiting representative of the Fiat Group in Turkey, Mr. Oguz Kuran (phonetically spelled), according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

The sides discussed issues related to the delivery of agricultural equipment manufactured by the Fiat Group in Turkey (tractors, harvesters and other agricultural equipment) to Tajikistan, the source at a MoA said.

In the course of the talks, the Tajik agriculture minister noted that not all Tajik farming units could afford to purchase tractors, and therefore, he suggested that the Turkish company should set up a center for maintenance of agricultural machines in Tajikistan that would allow Tajik farmers to familiarize themselves with high quality agricultural equipment manufactured by the company.

Representatives of Fiat group in Turkey accepted Tajik minister’s proposal and promised to organize an exhibition of their agricultural machines in Tajikistan in the near future, the source said.

Fiat Group has production facilities located in Turkey since 1971.  A peculiar feature of this presence is that all the affiliates of the group have set up joint ventures with Turkish partners.
