DUSHANBE, July 13, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Mr. Michael Anthony McFaul, Special Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the United States National Security Council, is expected to pay a short one-day visit to Dushanbe on July 15, Asia-Plus has learned from the source at the Government of Tajikistan.

During the visit, Mr. Michael Anthony McFaul will hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon.  “The two are expected to discuss the situation in the Central Asian region and Afghanistan as well as cooperation between special services of the two countries in countering international terrorism and drug trafficking,” the source said.

Dr. McFaul received his B.A. in International Relations and Slavic Languages and his M.A. in Slavic and East European Studies from Stanford University in 1986.  He was awarded a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford where he completed his Ph.D. in International Relations in 1991.  Professor McFaul has written numerous books on democratic transitions.
