DUSHANBE, August 2, 2010, Asia-Plus — There is no any higher education institution in the country at which cases of corruption have not been reported, the head of the Agency of State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, Fattoh Saidov, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 31.
“A couple of years ago the Technical and Agricultural universities as well as the Institute of Art had not been considered prestigious higher educational institutions and the level of corruption at them had been lower, while today they also joined the rows of the corrupted universities,” said Saidov, “Each of local universities has its rates of bribe.”
According to him, the deputy chairman of the selection commission at the Institute of Entrepreneurship and member of the selection commission at the Institute of Art were detained recently on suspicion of having been involved in corruption.
Saidov added that the rates of bribe for entering local prestigious universities now fluctuate from 15,000 to 20,000 U.S. dollars. “Thus, one of teachers at Tajik State Medical University has demanded 20,000 U.S. dollars as bribe,” the anticorruption agency chief noted.
