DUSHANBE, September 28, 2010, Asia-Plus — On September 28, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Amonsho Navrouzshoyev, Chairman of Roshtqala district, Gorno Badakhshan attended the handover ceremony at high school # 27 in Roshtqala jamoat, Roshtqala district.

According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No. 27 in Roshtqala District”, total amount of US$90,939 assisted by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP), has been successfully implemented.

Secondary school # 27 with 300 students and 49 teachers in the Roshtqala jamoat was constructed in 1954 and partially in 1970.  Without major rehabilitation since the construction, one of the school buildings was extremely damaged.  The students had to study in the other building, which was overpopulated with too many students.  Some students even stopped going to school because of the poor educational environment.

Comprehensive rehabilitation of the exhausted school building, including the renovation of roof, wall and floor, was conducted for the school to ensure proper and safe educational environment.  The project is expected to bottom up the educational level among the school children in Roshtqala district.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to educational and medical institutions, NGOs, and local governments in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  GGP has extended more than US$ 18.1 million for 255 projects in Tajikistan since 1996.
