DUSHANBE, September 29, 2010, Asia-Plus  — High-level relations between Tajikistan ad Iran could be role model of relationship for other nations, Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust announced at the eighth session of the Tajik-Iranian Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (TIIGC) that opened here today.

According to him, seven meetings between the heads of state of the two countries over the past two years were evidence of close cooperation and friendship between them.

Iranian diplomat is confident that there are no unsolved issues between Tajikistan and Iran at the highest level.  “However, we have to work more actively at lower levels in order to promote further expansion of bilateral cooperation in all spheres,” Sherdoust said.

Iran’s Deputy Energy Minister, Ismail Mahsoli, noted that political cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan was excellent and it was necessary to bring the economic cooperation to appropriate level.  “Although the majority points of the protocol of the seventh session have been successfully fulfilled, many issues have remained unsolved,” Iranian official said.

Tajik Minister of Energy and Industries said the session would consider issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan in the fields of trade, attraction of investments, standardization and insurance.  It will also consider bilateral cooperation between the two countries in sectors like banking and finance, automotive and aerial, Tajik minister added.

The session is expected to end on October 2 with signing of a protocol.

In the meantime, Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe says Iran’s Minister of Energy Majid Namjou, who is co-chairman of the commission, is arriving in Dushanbe tomorrow.

During his stay in Tajikistan, Iranian minister is scheduled to hold talks with a number of high ranking Tajik state officials to discuss bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, in particular acceleration of construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant in Tajikistan.
