DUSHANBE, November 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  – In January-September this year Dushanbe population saved more than 82,5 million KWt of electricity worth over 7,4 million Somoni (nearly $1.7m USD) thanks to energy saving lamps, the Tajik power supply company Barqi Tojik told Asia-Plus.

According to Baqri Tojik’s economists, each energy user saved electricity worth 45 Somoni. Currently, Barqi Tojik has 1 mln 200.000 energy users in Tajikistan’s capital.

“We will manage to save 414.7 mln KWt/hours of electricity worth over 37 mln Somoni with the use of even one 40Wt energy saving lamp in each family. This will help us to provide the entire republic with electricity for a 10-day period,” the source has said.

According to Barqi Tojik, 1.2 billion KWt/hours of electricity have been saved in last autumn-winter period with the use of cost-saving lamps in Tajikistan. This is 320 mln KWt/hours more as compared to the total amount of energy produced by Sangtuda-1 hydropower station in the reporting period.

According to Barqi Tojik, Tajikistan currently produces up to 38 mln KWt/hours of electricity. According to the source, recent energy cut-offs are connected with regular maintenance works. “We are now at the final stage of these repair works which are planned to be finalized by November 15th”, it said.

Energy cut-offs are also connected with current measures against debtors. “We refuse to provide electricity to our debtors, thus, telling them that it’s time to pay their debts,” the source has said.
