DUSHANBE, November 4, 2010, Asia-Plus – For the first time in the past 20 years cotton growers from Sughd area have managed to fulfill the objective and have already reported about this year’s cotton plan: a total of 92.048 tons of cotton out of the 92.000 plan have been harvested this year in Sughd area.

7 out of 9 cotton growing regions of Sughd area have fulfilled this year’s cotton plan, Bobojon Domulloev, Head of the Department of Agriculture for Sughd area told the AP. Cotton growers from Spitamen region are about to fulfill the plan (93%) as well as their colleagues from Zafarobod region (83%).

“However, we are still planning to complete this year’s cotton harvest campaign as cotton still remains unpicked in some areas,” he said, adding that cotton growers have increased cotton’s capacity by 1 centner and now harvest 17.1 centners from one hectare.

It should be noted that a total of 53.900 hectares have been allocated for cotton this year.
