DUSHANBE, November 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on November 8 on sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, including participation of Iran in construction of transport infrastructure and energy facilities in Tajikistan and increase in volumes of Iranian investment for development of Tajikistan’s infrastructure.

They also discussed further fate of Tajik students who are studying at Iranian religious schools illegally, the source said.

Iran’s news agency, IRNA, reports that Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) of Iran Saeed Jalili met with Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi in Tehran on November 9.

Jalili announced Tehran’s support for progress and development of Tajikistan.  He further voiced Tehran’s full readiness to boost all-round cooperation with Tajikistan.

Zarifi, for his part, referred to Tehran-Dushanbe relations as “very close and brotherly” and called for acceleration of joint projects.  He also called for signing new agreements on implementation of new projects by the two sides, IRNA said.

The Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) is a body created in 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level and to help integrate separate regional cooperation organizations such as ASEAN, SAARC and the Gulf Cooperation Council.  ACD, which was set up on the basis of dialogue, seeks to strengthen cooperation in different fields, especially in the economic and developmental areas.
