DUSHANBE, November 11, 2010, Asia-Plus — Prospects of further expansion of cooperation were a major topic of a meeting of Davlatali Saidov, Chairman of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Management Property (GosKomInvest) of Tajikistan with visiting Vice-President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Kiyoshi Kodera, that took place here on November 10.
The GosKomInvest source says the sides discussed cooperation prospects, because the Government of Japan is one of strategic partners of Tajikistan providing grant assistance for rehabilitation and development of the main sectors of Tajikistan’s economy.
“Major part of grants awarded by the Government of Japan has gone to financing development of infrastructure and water supply system,” said the source, “At present three large and important projects for a total amount of 60 million U.S. dollars are being implemented in the country due to grants provided by Japan.”
Mr. Kodera noted that the main purpose of the visit was to develop and strengthen cooperation. According to him, they have carried out analytical work on developing and approving a country development strategy for Tajikistan and they would like to coordinate those analyses with the Tajik side so that JICA’s country development strategy for Tajikistan would comply with national strategy and priorities of Tajikistan, the source said.
JICA’s technical assistance to Tajikistan started with accepting 21 participants for the training programs in 1993, and JICA Tajikistan Office was established in August 2006 in order to strengthen country- and region- specific approaches as one of the 95 overseas offices of JICA.
