DUSHANBE, February 2, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Alpine skiers Alisher Qudratov and Abdughaffor Sharifov representing Tajikistan at the 7th Asian Winter Games yesterday competed in Super-G.

According to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Tajikistan, Alisher Qudratov is in the top ten, with a time of 1:15:83.  Abdughaffor Sharifov finished 15th in Super-G, with a time of 1:20:91, the source said.

Tomorrow, Tajik alpine skiers will compete in the giant slalom.

Athletes from 24 Asian countries are participating at the 7th Winter Asiad in Kazakhstan.  The 7th Winter Asian was launched on January 30 and will conclude o February 6.  

The Asian Winter Games is a multi-sport event held every four years for members of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) which features winter events. The Japanese Olympic Committee first suggested the idea of holding a winter version of the Asian Games in 1982.  From having only seven member nations of the Olympic Council of Asia taking part in the first edition, the number of nations competing in the Winter Asiad has consistently grown.  In the most recent Asian Winter Games in Changchun (China), 27 out of the 45 members fielded a record number of competitors.
