DUSHANBE, February 25, 2011, Asia-Plus — Dramatic events that are going on in the Arab world countries will have psychological impact both on the peoples and the governments in Central Asia’s nations, Muhiddin Kabiri, leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP), told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon.
The IRP leader, however, excludes the possibility of occurrence of the ‘Arab scenario’ in our region in the near future. According to him, there are few supporters of the radical reform of the public management system especially by means of revolutions or public protests in the Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan.
“Such unrests do not threaten Tajikistan in the near future, because our people have firsthand knowledge of consequences of civil confrontation,” said Kabiri, “However, it must not be forgotten that lessons or consequences of that war (1992-1997 civil war) cannot be the eternal factor providing peace and stability n the country.”
“The world around us is rapidly changing and countries of Eastern Europe that had been in the sphere of political influence of the Soviet Union have already joined free and democratic nations and after the developments in the Arab world countries, the Central Asian region is rapidly becoming close neighbor of such countries,” the IRP leader noted.
“Taking into account events taking place throughout the world, including Arab nations, we must carry out reforms whether we like it or not,” said Kabiri, “And these reforms must not be carried out under Egyptian or Tunisian scenario when the ruling elite turns aside or joins the crowd.”
He believes that current governments must carry out these reforms in the Central Asian countries, especially in Tajikistan. “The governments must realize that it is becoming impossible to administer the affairs of the state in the old manner and they may enlist the services of political parties, intelligentsia and youth that will strengthen the unity of the nation,” Kabiri said.
