DUSHANBE, March 7, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Announcement of the Day of the Mother as national holiday of Tajikistan is a striking illustration of a high role of women in our society, a message of congratulations by President Emomali Rahmon on the occasion of women’s holiday says, according to the presidential press service.

In his message, the head of state stressed that a number of laws aimed at strengthening of women’s prestige in society have been adopted the country in recent years.

“Your active participation in discussion of a draft law on the responsibilities of parents demonstrates that you have never been indifferent to the fate of your homeland, children and society,” the president noted.

We will recall that International Women’s Day has been known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother since March 2009.  Congratulating women on March 8, 2009, President Emomali Rahmon said that International Women”s Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, but that ancient Aryan women — the ancestors of the Tajiks — had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.
