DUSHANBE, May 17, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Boxing Federation (TBF) has named a three-member team for the second China Open boxing tournament (Elite Men & Women) that will take place in the Chinese city of Guiyang from May 24 to June 4.

Mirzo Shamsiyev, who manages Tajik Olympic boxing team, says the team has been selected on the basis of performance of the boxers in national boxing championships.

“The China Open is very important for our athletes in terms of making good preparation for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournaments,” said Shamsiyev.  “After the China Open, our athletes will participate in the Asian qualifying tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan.  The main tournament for us will be the World Boxing Championships that will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from September 26 to October 10 this year.  This tournament will be one of the key qualifying tournaments for the 2012 London Olympics.”  

Members of the Tajik boxing team to participate in the second China Open are Anvar Yunusov and Jahon Qurbonov (men’s tournament) and Mavzouna Choriyeva (women’s tournament).
