KHUJAND, June 10 2011, Asia-Plus  — Driver has knocked down a policeman and escaped from the scene of the accident.

The accident took place in Bobojonghafurov district, Sughd province today morning.  “A car VAZ-21099 knocked down Shomurod Yuldoshev, an official with the criminal investigation squad of the Sughd police directorate, near the traffic police checkpoint on the highway from Ghafurov to Khujand and escaped from the scene of accident,” said the source, “However, the offender was detained without delay.  He proved to be private entrepreneur from the Yova jamoat in Bobojonghafurov district, Rustam Uzoqov, 27.”

Shomurod Yuldoshev was reportedly hospitalized and his health condition is now assessed as being moderate to severe.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Rustam Uzoqov under the provisions of Article 212 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code — violation of highway safety rules that entailed serious bodily injury or death of the victim.  An investigation is under way.
