KHUJAND, June 14, 2011, Asia-Plus – A couple from Sughd area has sold their newborn baby girl for $500.

The police department for Sughd area told the AP that on January 1st this year at approximately 3a.m. Gulnora Kodirova from Bobojon Gafurov region gave birth to two baby girls.

“Together with her husband Soliboev A. they have sold one of the newborns straight inside the maternity hospital. The buyer, T.B., a resident of Unji Jamoat of the same region, payed the couple $500 US dollars,” the source has said.

A criminal case was launched under article 167 part 2 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan. The investigation is under way.
